Stef Smith is a multi award-winning writer working to international acclaim.

For screen: Stef took part in the BBC Drama Writers Room in 2020. Her Digital Drama Short pilot Float was released on BBC iPlayer in October 2019 and was subsequently commissioned for a full season, which was released in 2021, produced by Black Camel Pictures. Float was invited to Series Mania in 2022 (Lille) and won the prize for Best Series of the Shorts Format Competition. Stef also won the award for Best Writer at Series Fest 2022 (Denver). Stef won the Royal Society of Television Scotland Award for Float and has been commissioned to write a second season.
Stef has won three Scotsman Fringe First Awards for Roadkill, Swallow and Enough.
Roadkill also won an Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in an Affiliate Theatre, a Herald Angel Award, the Amnesty Freedom of Expression Award, a Fringe First Award, a Total Theatre Award for Innovation, and the Edinburgh International Festival Fringe Prize.
Swallow opened to widespread critical acclaim, and also won the Scottish Arts Club Theatre Award.
Girl in the Machine won the 2019 Science and Theatre Drama Award in Germany.
Stef was shortlisted for the 2020 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize for Nora: A Doll’s House.
Stef is currently under commission to the Lyceum Theatre, Edinburgh; Leeds Playhouse; Royal Exchange Theatre and is on attachment at the National Theatre Studio. She is also developing her first feature film and working on a number of projects for television.
She is an Associate Artist at Playwrights’ Studio, Scotland.
